Table 1. Feather condition assessment criteria for laying hens

Score	Assessment criteria
0	Minimal feather damage observed. Some feather tips are deformed. Fewer than five wing and tail feathers are damaged.
1	Minor feather damage. Bald patches are less than 5 cm2. Five to ten wing and tail feathers are damaged.
2	Severe feather damage. Bald patches are greater than 5 cm2 but less than 75%. Eleven to fifteen wing feathers are damaged. Nine to twelve tail feathers are damaged.
3	Very severe feather damage. Bald patches cover more than 75%. More than sixteen wing feathers are damaged. More than thirteen tail feathers are severely damaged.
